THE CHALLENGES OF ATTENDING TO REEDUCANDOS IN THE HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

The Right to Health is within the orbit of Social Rights constitutionally guaranteed, as an indispensable fundamental right that needs to be promoted to all without restriction. In view of this, the individual, having restricted his freedom through imprisonment, should have retained all basic rights, but the mutilation of human and fundamental rights inside or outside jail through discrimination, prejudice and social exclusion is notorious. This article seeks, then, to reflect on the challenges faced in the care of reeducants in the hospital environment, considering that in the absence of adequate health services in prison, this will be provided elsewhere. But are health professionals prepared to deal with the specifics of the individual who has their freedom restricted? For the development of this study, bibliographic and documentary research are used. It is verified, then, that the reeducandes find as a barrier in health care, a social stigma of the “delinquent” and “criminal”, as a striking tool of social exclusion, conception socially disseminated and reproduced by the professionals in the care, causing the provision of a moralizing service.
