Abstract

Background: The quality of life and level of self-care of hypertensive individuals can be influenced by several factors. The knowledge of these factors in the city of Arapiraca-AL can help in the implementation of targeted public policies.

Objective: To describe the quality of life and level of self-care of patients with Arterial Hypertension (AH) in the city of Arapiraca, from 2019 to 2020.

Methods: Cross-sectional observational study involving 100 individuals with a clinical diagnosis of AH. The evaluation consisted of an evaluation form of clinical and personal data and three questionnaires: Quality of life in arterial hypertension (MINICHAL-BRASIL), Hypertension self-care profile (PAC-HTN) and Healthy Habits Perception Questionnaire (QPHAS).

Results: The mean age of the individuals evaluated was 64±11.52 years, 74% were female and 67% were sedentary. The interviewees' quality of life was considered satisfactory. Adherence to non-drug treatment was low, especially with regard to physical activity, food and BP monitoring at home.

Conclusion: The participants had a good quality of life, but with low adherence to non-drug therapy, interfering with the self-care of these patients.
