Abstract

Introduction: Vulnerability is directly associated with the quality of life of the elderly, that is, by presenting high vulnerability, one can infer the presence of low quality of life. Objective: To analyze the relationship between vulnerability and quality of life of elderly people in the city of Araras/SP. Methods: Quantitative and analytical study. The Vulnerable Elders Survey-13 and Quality of Life Questionnaire (SF-36) instruments were applied to 112 elderly residents in Araras/São Paulo, through individual interviews, initially selected using a spreadsheet made available by the Basic Health Units (UBS) and later by the elderly who participated and indicated other elderly people. The Chi Square test was applied with a significance of 5%. Obtained ethics approval under opinion 4,393,230. Results: Regarding the degree of vulnerability, 58.0% were categorized as non-vulnerable and 90.2% had a better quality of life. Regarding vulnerability and quality of life, there was a prevalence of non-vulnerable people with better quality of life, however, vulnerability was present. Conclusion: Given the relationship between vulnerability and quality of life, elderly people in vulnerable situations had worse quality of life. Thus, it is important that the health care of these individuals includes interventions on the factors that predispose to social vulnerability.
