Introduction: Expanding access to oral health care is a major challenge for Primary Health Care (PHC), as it involves ensuring quality access in a timely and equitable manner. Although the number of teams has increased, access is far from satisfactory. In the Amazon region, this problem becomes even more critical and unequal due to its particularities and geographical barriers. Objective: To understand the situation of access to dental care in the Amazon in order to identify weaknesses and potentials to improve the situation. Method: An exploratory, quantitative study was conducted with 59 municipal oral health coordinators. Data were collected digitally in June 2021 using a questionnaire provided through the Google Forms® application, consisting of 15 objective questions based on questions from the PMAQ-AB and the PCA Tool. Results: Only 37.3% of respondents reported that the professionals received training on patient reception; 69.5% reported that they do not organize or share their care plans; and 61% reported that users arrive early at care locations and are treated either on a first-come, first-served basis, or wait in line to get a ticket. Conclusion: The survey shows that there are still shortcomings in access, especially for those who need it most. A broad discussion on change is needed to reduce inequalities and ensure access for all.
