Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the services and benefits provided by the Árvore de Livros Digital Library, a platform adopted by librarians at the Pedagogical Center and Technical School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, aiming to address the demands of these institutions during the social distancing period imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Conducted from 2020 to 2021, this qualiquantitative research utilized reports from the Árvore de Livros platform, semi-structured interviews with librarians, teachers, and a technical representative of the platform, in addition to the acquisition contract. This study allowed for the exploration, investigation, and documentation of the digital information source adopted in a challenging educational context. Although positive results were identified in the use of the Árvore library, some questions arose regarding the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of the investment in periods considered normal. The research emphasized the importance of the school library for basic education and highlighted the librarian's role within information units, especially in evaluating products and services in specific situations.
