Abstract:
Introduction: The inclusion of social sciences in the subject of collective health expands the vision of health beyond the biological field. The emergence of Covid-19 has accelerated the search for health knowledge and challenged social sciences to analyze metaphors and interpretations of the virus and the disease. Control measures have been met with resistance due to social inequalities and misinformation. Objective: To analyze how the population in the areas covered by Primary Health Care perceives the prevention and control measures of Covid-19 and translates them into everyday practices - at the individual, family, and collective levels. Methodology: This is a multicenter study with a quantitative and qualitative approach, in which 6,775 people from the areas connected to the primary health care units participated. This article is a cross-section of the qualitative phase of the study, which included 820 dialogued interviews with individuals who had participated in the quantitative phase of the study, distributed across the five regions of the country. Thematic content analysis was used for the analysis, supported by MaxQDA software. Results: The analyzes revealed regional characteristics and specificities that are directly influenced by factors such as habits, culture, and socio-economic conditions. The results showed the difficulties experienced by the population in putting the guidelines into practice, the impact and changes in life, the uncertainties and expectations of the moment experienced, the repercussions of political and governmental measures, the perception of the care provided by health services, the views and perceptions of the information received, and the strategies to protect the community and the family. Final considerations: The research presented relevant findings about the relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic and Brazilian society. It provided a comprehensive understanding of the impact on daily life in the areas of health and the economy, in addition to providing support for a better government response and the development of more comprehensive and effective policies to manage health crises in the future to promote the health and well-being of the Brazilian population. This text is the result of the Professional Master's Degree in Family Health (PROFSAÚDE).
