Abstract

Introduction: Worldwide, the number of people with Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) exceeds 600 million; in Brazil, approximately 17 million people are affected. Objective: To describe the epidemiologic and sociodemographic profile of hypertensive patients in a municipality in the southern region of Mato Grosso. Methods: This is a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Data collection took place between April and July 2023. Results: 134 users participated in the study, with an average age of 66 years, predominantly female, self-reported brown, with incomplete primary education, Catholic, without a partner and living with family members. Most participants reported sleeping less than eight hours a day, having no leisure activities and not consuming tobacco or alcohol. All were living with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Discussion: Chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are caused by various factors, mainly related to the individual's lifestyle and the aging process. Conclusion: Determining the epidemiologic and sociodemographic profile of the population with SAH is of great importance as it shows a panorama of the occurrence of NCDs and their impact in the territory.
