Abstract

Sugarcane in the Mata Sul Pernambucana region has a history of resistance over time, besides being part of the region's culture and stimulating the local economy. Objective: In this sense, the present study aimed to analyze the sugarcane scenario in the South Pernambucan forest in the PERIOD OF COVID 19 from the perception of rural producers and an agricultural technician from the region. Method: Field research using interviews was used as a research method. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: As a result, it was identified that the current scenario of sugarcane is in decline in the amount of hectares planted and in production, resulting in a smaller total ton. It was also identified that a variable that contributes to the decline of the crop is the poor quality of the soil due to the lack of nutrients that is the result of the excessive use of the lands of the South Forest. Contributions: It can be concluded that sugarcane represents the main source of income in the studied region, besides being responsible for the survival of farmers who deal directly with sugarcane and generating employment and income for the local population.
