Les peuples autochtones de Californie au Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology: notes sur les images, les archives et les pratiques muséales

Résumé

À partir d'une recherche développée au Phoebe Hearst Anthropological Museum en 2020, quelques considérations sont proposées afin de réfléchir sur l'histoire de l'anthropologie aux États-Unis et les transformations des perspectives muséales face aux peuples autochtones de Californie. À partir des analyses de la constitution de certaines collections et de textes sur le site Internet du musée, nous cherchons à souligner les changements qui ont eu lieu tout au long de son histoire. En ce sens, nous cherchons à utiliser le travail d'Ira Stuart Jacknis (1952–2021), chercheur au Phoebe Hearst Museum depuis 1991. L'hypothèse esquissée est que les contradictions et les asymétries inhérentes au travail anthropologique deviennent potentiellement transformatrices, à mesure que le musée collections et archives contiennent des dimensions réflexives et des significations dynamiques, marquées par les relations établies avec les différentes générations des communautés représentées.
