The challenge of the archivistic exercise in a communication institution

a case study on TV Tambaú

Abstract

The present work aims to present the challenges and possibilities of archiving at the television station, TV Tambaú (João Pessoa – Paraíba). For this, it was necessary to identify the role of the archivist, outlining his perspectives and problems, through direct observation and analysis of three of his files: people management, purchases and video-magnetic tapes. The research has an exploratory character, involving bibliographic and documentary surveys, collecting data also through direct observation and unstructured interviews, directed to their respective guardians; descriptive, reporting the characteristics referring to the object of this work, in addition to the use of qualitative approach and analysis. Regarding the results obtained, it is recommended the implementation of document management, application of conservation techniques and physical and digital preservation, standardization in the methods of ordering, digitization, constitution of sectorial files, storage and packaging, in order to obtain informational control, access and use by its usersIt concludes that the archivist, in addition to providing the organization and management of various types of documents, directly influences the organizational decision-making power and access to information, both for internal and external users.
