The covid-19 pandemic changed lifestyle habits, impacting the mental health of the elderly population. Such negative impact on the mental health of the elderly was visible due to the limitation in social participation, in community organizations and in the family, causing an increase in cases of anxiety and depression in the elderly population. Objective: To assess the negative effects on the mental health of the elderly population in the face of mandatory isolation. Method: This is an integrative review carried out from March to November 2021, in Portuguese, Spanish and English, using the databases Scielo, MEDLINE via PubMed and LILAS via the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Thus, 19 articles were selected as reference. Result: The studies stated that being a woman, being younger, having a previous diagnosis of mental disorder, having a compromised immune system, having decreased income during the period, being part of the risk group and viewing information about the dead and infected are factors that indicate greater chance of mental health problems. Conclusion: In general, the results showed that those aged over 65 years reported an increase in mental problems in the period. Therefore, one should be concerned with the long-term effects, making it necessary to seek measures to minimize them.Downloads
