Artificial intelligence is a term which has been massively associated with futuristic and innovative atmospheres. However, this is not a recent topic, since its origins date back to the first half of the 20th century. In face of that, this paper aims to explore meanings that have been made regarding artificial intelligence in cinematographic works to discuss possibilities of working with that topic in critical language education. We have decided to reflect upon the representation of artificial intelligence in films in the context of language as a means to think about how movies impact the process of meaning-making concerning technologies, especially those devices managed by artificial intelligence. In this direction, this article is characterized as a qualitative analysis developed through documentary research focused on films about artificial intelligence. The results point, in general, to an emphasis on robots as well as on futuristic cities highly equipped with state-of-the-art technologies.Downloads
