Angola é um dos principais Estados africanos e uma das grandes lideranças na África Austral. Com um histórico de conflito pela independência e guerra civil, tem o Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola como partido no poder desde a sua independência. Recentemente, em 2017, o Presidente José Eduardo dos Santos, no poder há 38 anos, dá lugar à João Lourenço. O objetivo dessa pesquisa é analisar, a partir do método histórico-comparativo, se essa mudança impactou positivamente no processo de democratização angolano. Parte-se do pressuposto de que não houve alterações significativas na condução política do país. As conclusões preliminares indicam para uma manutenção da elite do poder e um eventual retrocesso autoritário.
