Abstract

Self-care is a relevant element for maintaining health, well-being and quality of life. In order for this aspect to be instrumentalized as a protective factor, it must be improved through lifelong learning. This study aimed to reflect on the relationship between learning processes in aging and the development of self-care. To this end, a bibliographic research of the scientific literature on the subject was carried out. The literature panorama showed that the learning process in old age brings gains in well-being and quality of life, especially when positive feelings are denoted in this process with self-esteem and a sense of self-efficacy. Self-care practices can be understood as a set of activities that permeate health and behavioral issues, but are influenced by elements of a physical, psychological and sociocultural nature, being subject to educational interventions aimed at information and instruction for their development.
