Introduction: Multiprofessional Health Residencies constitute training strategies that aim to reorient care practices and develop competencies from an interprofessional perspective. Objective: To understand the potential and challenges for interprofessional training and practice of residents and preceptors. Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study based on interviews with residents and preceptors from Family Health Units in southern Bahia between 2021 and 2022. The data were subjected to content analysis according to Bardin. Results: Two categories emerged from the corpus: 1) Opportunities for interprofessional training and practice in specialty residencies, emphasizing greater learning and expansion of performance skills, and 2) Challenges for interprofessional training and practice in specialty residencies, which emphasized a more traditional training, the distance between residencies and service professionals, the need for specialized training for preceptors, and finally the COVID-19 pandemic as a limiting factor for interprofessional practice. Conclusions: In-service training has had a positive impact on education and healthcare delivery despite the current model of care. However, greater coordination between management, academia and service is required to address the challenges of the healthcare reality. This text is the result of the Professional Master‘s Degree in Family Health (PROFSAÚDE).
