Abstract

Orange rust (Puccinia kuehnii) is one of the most significant sugarcane diseases, especially in tropical regions, potentially reducing yields by over 40% in susceptible varieties. This study evaluated the resistance of 12 sugarcane genotypes to orange rust at PMGCA/CECA/UFAL, Rio Largo/AL. A randomized block design with four replicates was used. Severity assessments were performed biweekly between November 2022 and August 2023, using the scale proposed by Amorim et al. (1987). The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) was calculated, and data were subjected to statistical analysis. Significant differences were observed among genotypes, with RB0636, RB0531, and RB12371 showing the lowest AUDPC values and highest resistance. The results highlight the potential of these genotypes for use in breeding programs and cultivation systems under similar conditions to the experiment.
