Menstrual poverty and public policies: extension experience at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais

Abstract

Menstrual poverty is a current theme of extreme relevance because it encompasses numerous aspects of the lives of people who menstruate. Thus, this work aims to present the extensionist practices carried out in the Social Sciences course, as well as to briefly situate the theme apprehended. The theoretical development around the basic precepts analysed in the bibliography on menstrual poverty is approached here. At the same time, the empirical-active experience of creating an expository blog on the theme is presented. The means that shaped the form of the work are also presented, starting from what was taken as expected from the results, and what in fact ended, demonstrating the difficulties and the contours taken throughout the project. The notions of menstrual poverty and its interpenetration in social relations are transposed as a support to the content of the blog and its launch. The consequent problems of the phenomenon are addressed, with a brief glance at its causes. The public policies, joined as a contribution in this environment, start to format one of the main guidelines for the transformation of this sphere. The conclusion, finally, comes to demonstrate the double theoretical and practical content, of understanding and exposure of the theme, through its development by the work of Social Science researchers.
