Abstract: Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life brings benefits to both babies and mothers. However, in Brazil the exclusive breastfeeding rate is around 45.7%, below the recommended target. In this sense, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (IHAC) seeks to improve this situation, promoting pre-, during- and post-partum care, with a focus on breastfeeding. Therefore, the objective of the work was to describe the activities developed by the Extension Project entitled “Breastfeeding, HUPAA” of the Faculty of Nutrition of the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), in partnership with the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital. Activities included support for postpartum/lactating women and use of social media (WhatsApp and Instagram) to disseminate information. Materials were produced covering various topics related to breastfeeding, posts, videos and a WhatsApp group to clarify mothers' doubts with health professionals in an instant and participatory way. The results indicated a positive impact on the postpartum women and health professionals involved, highlighting the relevance of extension projects for practice and knowledge exchange with the community and contributing to the academic development of those involved.
