Abstract

Introduction: The primary care of Chronic Kidney Disease patients on hemodialysis is occasionally overseen by nephrologists. Healthcare services must devise strategies to address women's health needs comprehensively. Objective: This paper delineates the conceptualization and execution of a health education project focused on women's health for dialysis patients in nephrology clinics. Methods: A descriptive study, structured as an experiential report, was undertaken involving nephrologists and health science students who received specialized training. The study was conducted in dialysis clinics with female patients and their caregivers. Results: The project was executed between May 2021 and May 2022 and encompassed dynamic and interactive activities centered on pivotal women's health topics. These topics included breast and cervical cancer prevention and early diagnosis, sexual health and dysfunction, contraception, menopause, and pregnancy. The project not only empowered the patients and encouraged self-care but also offered significant learning experiences to the participating students. Conclusions: The implementation of an extension project geared toward women's health within the context of dialysis has demonstrated its effectiveness as a pivotal strategy for enhancing the comprehensive care of female patients in this setting.
