Abstract

This work’s goal is to ponder about the decolonial perspective as an element to the reconstruction of the education system’s curriculum component of Portuguese Language. This way of thinking is constructed from the presumption that the language which rules a society is a political instrument of power and discrimination in human relations. Therefore, it can be used so as the hegemonic european pattern structures are problematized, reconsidered and finally ruptured. From there on, by understanding the colonial effects which perpetuates in societies that went thru a colonization process, we reflect specifically upon the coloniality of power, of being and of knowing - concepts proposed by the Grupo Modernidade/Colonialidade (M/C), in the late 90’s. Thereby, we ponder over how this concepts are present in the conception of education, yet in the current times. In that sense, the purpose is to incite the current and future teachers to rethink their practices, encouraging them to make a conscious choice of  didactic material and approaches in the classroom’s context. In order to do that, this essay is divided as follows: 1. Inicial Considerations; 2: The education and the coloniality of power, of being and of knowing; 3. The teaching of the Portuguese Language: a decolonial (re)construction e 4. Final Considerations. At last, understanding coloniality as “a new pattern of mundial power”, decoloniality presents itself, alternatively, as a promising starting point for a more critical way of thinking.
