reconstruction of a concept in light of the critique of political economy

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to propose a reconstruction of the concept of régime of information in light of the critique of political economy by Karl Marx, an author who places class struggles at the focus of social relations of production and reproduction of the material conditions of human existence in capitalist society. Based on the bibliographical review method for theoretical-epistemological foundation purposes, the article demonstrates that both Bernd Frohmann and Maria Nélida González de Gómez have recognized academic contributions for their critical analyzes in the field of Information Science, being the proposition (by Frohmann) and the development (by González de Gómez) of the concept of régime of information an unquestionable example. However, the analysis reveals that the constructivist and post-structuralist theoretical references that the author uses for their propositions present certain epistemological obstacles, which need to be criticized and overcome. As a result, the contribution of this epistemological turn intends to contribute to understanding the concept of regime of information, within the scope of research in Information Science, as a theoretical representation of the historical process of class struggles waged within the scope of the production and circulation of information.
