Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To verify the prevalence of voice symptoms and mental stress in public school teachers during the pandemic. METHODOLOGY: Cross-sectional, descriptive research carried out with public school teachers, in remote teaching, during the period from 2020 to 2021, through the application of a questionnaire in an online form. Approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP/UFAL) (CAAE: 31089220.0.0000.5013). RESULTS: Sample of 83 teachers, 70% belonged to elementary school. It was observed that 98.8% of the teachers reported the presence of some vocal complaint, the most prevalent being: tiredness when speaking (55.4%), pain or burning in the throat (50.6%) and throat clearing (47%). , and all teachers showed symptoms of mental stress. DISCUSSION: in this pandemic scenario, the use of remote teaching had repercussions, aggravating the health of teachers. The high vocal demand can be justified due to several risks, such as the difficulty in using digital technologies and in reconciling the home environment and the Home Office, which culminated in a professional with fatigue and mental fatigue. CONCLUSION: the study highlights the need for actions to promote vocal, physical and mental health, with multidisciplinary follow-up aimed at improving the quality of life and the exercise of the profession.
