WORKSHOP ON WRITING TECHNIQUES FOR MATHEMATICAL TEXTS

The Extension Project "Workshop on Writing Techniques for Mathematical Texts," linked to the education thematic area, aimed to reduce the deficit of knowledge about mathematical writing by working on writing techniques focusing on mathematical texts, as well as advocating for the interaction of written language with mathematical language as a strategy for teaching mathematics meaningfully. The target audience included first-year mathematics students and students from Basic Education. The methodological approaches used were bibliographical, aiming to compile works on the topic; exploratory, aiming to provide more familiarity with the problem; and active, aiming to emphasize the active participation of students in constructing the knowledge addressed in the workshop. After the workshops were conducted, it was possible to conclude that participants developed an understanding that the development of writing skills and the teaching of mathematics combined with language are important pedagogical practices for promoting the understanding and mastery of mathematical concepts.
