PLAYFUL STRATEGIES IN TEACHING FIRST AID TECHNIQUES: Experience with Children and Adolescents

Abstract

First aid is the immediate care that must be provided quickly to a person, victim of accidents or sudden illness, whose physical condition puts their life in danger, in order to maintain vital functions and prevent the worsening of their conditions. Children and adolescents are prone to greater risks of accidents due to the development of cognitive and motor characteristics presented at this stage. Therefore, health education actions are important strategies to expand and disseminate knowledge, with the aim of preventing or minimizing health problems. This article is a descriptive study, of an experience report type, regarding the use of playful strategies for teaching first aid techniques to children and preventing accidents prevalent in childhood. The workshops were carried out by members of the Academic League of Child Health Nursing (LAESC) at UFAL, during the Interinstitutional Week of Research, Technology and Innovation in Basic Education (Sinpete) 2023 and targeted children and adolescents from public schools and private companies in the municipality of Arapiraca and surrounding municipalities. Thus, the application of playful approaches associated with the use of mannequins present in the laboratory, to instruct first aid techniques in children, demonstrated to be an effective strategy to promote participation with students, favoring the association of theoretical content with practice and contributing to avoid childhood accidents.
