Abstract

The concept of social capital has been used by North American sociology to underline the importance of informal social networks in the construction of social relationships and forms of sociability that are based on personal and collective interests.

This article presents a construction of the concept of social capital from the perspective of authors such as Bourdieu, Portes, Coleman, Putnam and Granovetter. In the article, the authors' contributions to the construction of the concept of social capital and the way in which it can be applied in the theory of social networks can be read.
