Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the geolinguistic profile of diphthongs /ej/ and /ou/ in Amapá speaking. The work has as theoretical support the discussions of Sociolinguistics (TARALLO, 2007) and Dialectology (CARDOSO, 2010). The research methodology has a sample of phonetic data belonging to the corpus of the Atlas Linguistic Project of Amapá (ALAP). For this, 40 stratified informants were selected according to sex (man and woman), age group (18 to 30 years and 50 to 75 years) and geographic space, that is, 10 municipalities in Amapá: Macapá, Santana, Mazagão , Laranjal do Jari, Pedra Branca do Amapari, Porto Grande, Tartarugalzinho, Amapá, Calçoene and Oiapoque. The phonetic items selected for analysis of the diphthong /ej/ were: prateleira, travesseiro, torneira, peneira, manteiga, teia, peixe, bandeira, correio, companheiro, meia and beijar. As for diphthong /ou/ were: tesoura and ouvido. From the analysis of the data, it was concluded that for the diphthong /ej/, speaking of amapaenses, there was 58% of presence of the maintenance of the semivowel [j] and 42% of absence of this semivowel. Regarding the realization of the diphthong /or/, 42% presence and 58% absence of the semivowel were obtained [w].
