1922 was a period of great movement at Livraria Leite Ribeiro, due to several factors, among which the emerging modernity and its consequent modernism. In this scenario, more specifically between 1917 and 1929, Editora Livraria Leite Ribeiro published, in addition to a variety of books by men, fiction books by four authors: Iracema Guimarães Vilela; Cecília Bandeira de Melo Rebelo de Vasconcelos; Júlia Lopes de Almeida and Augusta Franco. To base an analysis on the works of female authorship published by the publisher, this article presents the trajectory of Editora Livraria Leite Ribeiro through an analysis based on the concepts of literary field, habitus and capital, by Pierre Bourdieu, so that it is possible to identify under what circumstances the works written by those women were published. In conclusion, Editora Livraria Leite Ribeiro's interest in publishing books by women, which is based on the symbolic capital of Leite Ribeiro, can be considered, in itself, a modern characteristic of Editora, since it places it in the literary field at beginning of the 20th century, constituted by new artistic and intellectual references, such as the books written by these women.
