The curvature of the rod in multiple dimensions

The 40th anniversary of the launch of the book School and democracy was at the center of the debates of the XVI Journey of the Study and Research Group "History, society and education in Brazil – HISTEDBR", held in João Pessoa/PB, in 2023. This text expresses the author's position, in the panel entitled Beyond the curvature of the rod: philosophical and political foundations of historical-critical pedagogy. Understanding marginality (later called exclusion) and how educational theories considered it – or rather, disregarded it – sedimenting the dual education of class society, is fundamental to the understanding of the intrinsic relations between society and education, society and politics, politics and education. The purpose of the text, derived from bibliographic research and experience as a teacher of the history of education, is to contribute to the continuity of efforts to bend the rod, in the struggle to overcome injustices and social inequalities.
