This research aimed to know the reality of English language teaching in state schools in Andirá-PR, facing the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, the study investigated possible changes in English language teaching in the remote modality, compared to face-to-face one, in addition to describing and explaining advantages and/or difficulties experienced by English language teachers in the pandemic context. The basic literature concerns empirical research conducted on the subject, such as Bailer and Segaty (2020); Fistarol; Pottmeier; Caetano (2021), to name a few. Having a qualitative nature, this case study had as a data generation instrument a questionnaire, composed of 12 open-ended questions, answered by four English language teachers in two state schools. Results reveal actions related to knowledge updating, expansion of didactic possibilities, methodological adaptation, self-assessment of knowledge and continuity of classes, in addition to obstacles that include insecurity, low student engagement, administrative, structural and technical issues. In this way, it is expected that the results of this investigation can trigger the carrying out of others on the subject and then expand this field of study that has been so significant in the current scenario.
