Abstract

This article aims to analyze the novel Água funda (1946), by Ruth Guimarães, highlighting the presence of orality, as well as the elements of popular culture. The work presents a discourse based on colloquial expressions of the interior language, in a plot that refers to a set of events in which the legends and myths of the oral tradition of Brazilian folklore are manifested. Starting from considerations about the relationship between orality and literature, we discuss the dialogues and intersections between writing and orality in the work in question. Paul Zumthor (1993), Dino Preti (2001; 2012) and Irene Machado (1995) are some of the references used to support the approach to this content.
