Conflict of meanings of Brazilian Sign Language in the legal text

Abstract

We aim to discuss the meanings of Brazilian Sign Language in the text of the Brazilian Law for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (LBI). For this, the work was inscribed in the assumptions of the Event Semantic theory (Guimarães, 2002, 2018), which understands that the meaning of a word is constituted in the enunciation, in the language event that means from the subject's relationship with the language as a political practice, as it establishes conflict at the center of saying. Rewriting and articulation were used as analytical procedures, and based on the established meaning relationships, we developed the DSD and presented the enunciative scene as a methodological-descriptive category. Although the results of the analyzes point to ways of signifying the Brazilian Sign Language as an essential means of communication for the affirmation and inclusion of deaf people, they also lead to the interpretation that although the use of Libras as a first language is a right that must be preserved, above all, at school, there are still obstacles to ensuring it, which means that the fight for inclusion continues to be crossed by clashes for the recognition of deaf people with rights to places of speech and belonging to a deaf community with its own culture, history and language.
